What Blacks Can Learn From Obama’s First Term

10 Nov
Obama shaking hands with mostly black crowd.

Stop being so thirsty.

by Yvette Carnell

In a meeting with over 100 community leaders at the White House on Wednesday, President Obama urged the mostly African American group to “stay unified”.  Unity implies that both Obama and black voters have been on the same page, speaking with one unified voice, up until now.  In reality, nothing could be further from the truth. Until recently, President Obama had been evading African Americans and our respective surrogates in an effort to prove to the most puritanical segment of the white electorate that he’s no nigger lover, and no nigger favorer, and certainly no nigger indulger.  Now, with the 2012 campaign in full swing, he’s trying to pretend that all along, we misunderstood him. Whatever.

Anyway, I’m not going to try to convince you why you should or shouldn’t vote for Obama in 2012 because chances are, your mind is already made up. So, it’s really beside the point now isn’t it? But it is important that African Americans use Obama’s Presidency as an opportunity for learning to interpret the lexicon of power; how it builds, then permeates, and then shows its face.

Part of the reason we’ve “misunderstood” Obama’s relationship to us is because we’ve misinterpreted the pertinent indicators.  For example, in true peer to peer power relationships, where both groups (and persons) are stakeholders, the nature of communication is one of collusion. Stakeholders bump noggins and burn the midnight oil in an effort to hash out a mutually advantageous agreement or strategy. Mutual risk. Mutual agreement.

Not surprisingly, the key metric for exposing peer to peer relationships is fraternization. That’s why you’re more likely to see Obama on the golf course with bankers than at the White House with community organizers.  That’s why lobbyists are involved in the nascent stages of writing legislation. That’s why Obama chose former JP Morgan Chase top executive Bill Daley as his chief of staff. That’s also why Obama waited until 2011 to start paying attention to the African American electorate.

What black folks should be paying attention to is how Obama is bringing them in at the end, to seal the deal, rather than in the beginning to craft it.  When folks come out and tell you what decisions have been made and how they impact you without the benefit of your input, then it’s time to panic.  (And for the record, shuffling Al Sharpton and Ben Jealous in for a 30 minute visit to the White House where both men meekly emerged without promises or commitments from the HNIC – except for maybe, Sharpton’s new MSNBC gig, but that wouldn’t come until later- isn’t considered input.)

It’s all indicative of the fact that the black constituency is not engaged in a peer to peer, power broker to powerbroker, relationship with President Obama. Part of this is our own fault since we don’t seem to understand that we actually have the potential to wield a great deal of power. Part of it, though, is also Obama’s fault for yielding to racist factions within the American electorate; factions which insisted that Obama sacrifice African Americans in order to establish his genuine American bona fides. Now that they’ve gotten their pound of flesh, and now that we understand the lexicon, the question is; what should be our reaction?

Indeed, we’re in for a laborious period since gaining a renewed perspective requires casting Obama as the antagonist as opposed to a symbol of progress, or worse yet, a symbol of post-racialism. A symbol is a picture you hang on your wall in between MLK and  Malcolm X; a real life politician is a person you light a fire under until he does in office what he promised he’d do when he ran. A symbol is stagnant. A politician is dynamic. The mistake we collectively made was putting Obama on the wall before his term was over. We don’t know who or what he’ll become if he gets a second term, but that can’t matter to us. Meaning, insulating him against those who would besmirch his presumed legacy can’t matter to us. Why? Because it mattered to us from 2008 until 2011 and it didn’t gain us anything. Now’s the time for us to renegotiate the terms of agreement with this President in such a way that we’re included in the nexus of power. We can begin by asking this President what we get in exchange for a decision to “stay unified”. Hope, as it were, just isn’t enough.

Obama is not your friend nor can he, or will he ever be!

You could go a step further in understanding how the game is played on us. We are not wise to the game because the game has always been played on our minds and our bodies. The social structure that chose to place Obama is the same that chose to beat down and finally murder our strongest leaders like ML King, The Panthers, Malcolm X, etc. The elite behind Obama are a combination of Jews and Anglos. They are very devious and have great think-tanks to help them devise all sorts of confusing and unbelievable, diabolical projects. (They even run media-wide concocted lies to test their public-reaction theories). We as “blacks” have had our growth stunted every decade of our existence here and abroad. And so it goes. Mr. Obama is not really in charge as they would have us all convinced to believe. None of their ‘political’ choices are in [real power] they have their orders and they’d better follow them. None of this benefits us and much of it doesn’t benefit the general public. It benefits those who hide in the shadows and manipulate all aspects of world affairs!
So why did they choose Mr. Obama? Well it appears to me that they are focused on doing some serious damage to Africa and we who are part of the African Diaspora. Mr. Obama is apparently a willing participant in their grand designs and he will be well rewarded as long as he doesn’t attempt to deviate from their controls. We have no say in whether Mr. Obama makes it into the second term or not because we are foolish to believe that we have any control whatsoever. In other words if Obama is their choice nothing can stop that! We will never have “black” unity because those in power are overwhelmingly opposed to our having enough power to cancel any of their wishes. It appears that the Jews are the only people that have enough power to cancel out anything “American”. Keep a close eye on just how much power the Jewish community has because that is one of the signs of just how screwed we are in this, the country of our birth. The Jews can have dual citizenship with Israel where as we are generally considered as second class citizens here at best!
Mr. Obama is a smooth talking, educated politician, but believe me when I tell you that he is not in power and worst still he is not our friend! It is amazing how conditioned we have been made, to believe in this highly and utterly corrupted ‘White Supremacist” system. it appears now that even white people can’t get a break, so how on earth do so many blacks think we would have a snowball’s chance in hell? (Americanization-Conditioning) It’s all in the mind! Name your brand of psychosis or live in total denial!

after reading your post on how we are doomed as a people…seems like suicide with the red kool aid is the only option because you offer nothing positive nor solutions if i follow your twisted logic…

i wonder where would black people be in this country if leaders like nat turner, harriet tubman, denmark vessay, mlk and malcom had your negative/hopeless attitude…

even the slaves had hope…and they had nothing tangible to keep hope alive other than faith…

Um the jonestown people were murdered by the cia and not koolaid.

Did you really say this, “we have no say in whether Mr. Obama makes it into the second term or not because we are foolish to believe that we have any control whatsoever.”

so you are telling us that if (i will give you 50% of black people) stay home for the next election obama will still win? do you really belive that…

      • Tracy Richard November 13, 2011 at 7:22 pm #

Sharon what is a girl or woman to do, PRAYER is the answer. Every person of Color (not just Black people) must get out and vote.
Many people of color are becoming brainwashed, brain damaged or just plain losing their minds because they are confused and in bondage. Satan’s purpose is to steal, kill and destroy, young and old people of all Color and Races, please open your eyes to see and your ears to hear what is being said.

I tell you the truth if President Obama is not re-elected in 2012, all hell is going to break loose right here in the United States of America, you think the people of Color and the other races have it not so good now, you have not seen nothing yet.

Herman Cain is a good Bull Sh*t talker, if he is elected in 2012 we can kiss good bye to all of what our ancestors died for, suffered, hung on trees, freedom from slavery, women raped, men and women murdered, they were treated like animals not humans. Herman Cain do not care about any of you people, black, white, hispanic, indian, Asian, etc., just to name a few. Please excuse my language, there is no other word to clearly explain what Herman Cain is, except he is a womanizer, deceitful and untrustworthy liar, a disgrace to the Black Race and Human Race. Herman Cain is a Wolf in Sheep’s clothing, beware before you are smitten with his smooth sh*t talking tactics. Herman Cain is telling all of you LOUD and CLEAR, there will be no TANF, FOOD STAMPS, EDUCATION, SOCIAL SECURITY, UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS, etc., just to name a few programs he will cut, because he thinks you do not deserve it, you people as he said are just looking for handouts.

Please young people 18 years and older your vote does count, re-elect President Obama for a second term, his plate was overflowing when he came into the office as President, and had to fight a war against Congress, what President in history had to come in office facing, wars, recession, Fanny & Freddy and Stock Market collapsing, as Whoopie would say, “What the Hell”.

I have said my peace, so now I go in peace and love.

        Tracy

I am asking the following to come out and vote for President Obama in November 2012: people of races, color, national origin, women, poor whites, OWS, MoveOn, Catholics, Moslems, lesbians, gays etc. I saw the GOP debate yesterday and I was surprised to hear they really want to care for the 1 percent richest people in America. They believe the super rich will eventually be nice enough to hire the rest of us. That’s why they are shipping jobs abroad leaving people here on welfare. The same people blame people on welfare calling them lazy. Let’s show them in November 2012 who the boss is. It’s the 99 percent-the middle and low income. Watch the AARP Commercial on Medicare. It’s to the point warning republicans to behave or else.

  2. pastori Balele November 11, 2011 at 12:40 am #

Listen carefully President Obama’s voice when giving a major speech. He sounds like Martin Luther King Jr. In any case here is summary of President Obama’s success so far that shows he is smarter than any of the present GOP contenders now. President Obama fulfilled what he promised in 2008. Obama appointed many Black professions in his administration such as US Attorney General, many federal district and appellate judges, US ambassadors, US rep at United Nations etc. Obama got “A+” on Health Care law. Insurers cannot deny covering pre-existing conditions- tell that Sarah Palin whose daughter had down syndrome-many insurers refused to cover the girl; you are covered for prolonged stays in hospitals; covering your kids in college; if you lose your job and you can keep your doctor. Obama makes sure Medicare and Medicaid programs are intact. Obama put a law to tax the super-rich more and cut taxes on low and middle income people. See what Republicans did. Fight and fight. Obama is ending wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some troops are coming home. Republicans are fighting. They want those wars continued for more money for their friends – CEOs. Obama got A+ for restructuring Wall Street. President Obama nominated officer to oversee Wall Street activities. But Republicans are fighting the nomination to keep corruption at WS. But we have OWS and Moveon fighting corruption. Obama got A+ for reforming the banking system. Bank CEOs are careful not to jip people or else President Obama will be on their case. Obama got A+ for establishing business fund to help businesses retool. But Republicans are fighting that too. Obama got A+ for restructuring student loans. Loans are now processed at colleges instead of giving bank CEOs undeserved bonuses. Republicans call that socialism. Obama is getting A+ for rejuvenating the economy. But we know GOP and CEOs are in conspiracy – they are shipping jobs abroad leaving Americans here on welfare. Obama got A+ for urging homeowners to refinance their mortgages. But Republicans and Banks have twisted the program. Americans can now visit foreign countries and be received as friends – not during Bush era. Do you know why Arab countries want democracy? It’s Obama. The world saw American people had politically and socially matured to elect African-American as President. They could not believe White people voting for an African-American. They cried for joy. Now it was their turn to see democracy in their countries. See what happened in Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Yemen and now Syria. People there want to copy America democracy. Obama got A+ for getting Bin Ladin, the Yemen guy and other followers. We can now sleep without those monsters in our brains. TEA Party and Republicans were jealousy. Even their chair – John Boehner criticized Obama for supporting Libya. What a nerd. Gadhafi is out and oil is now flowing freely to Europe and US. Republicans cannot even find a candidate to challenge President Obama. All GOP candidates are bigots and hate Blacks – that includes Herman Cain. I am asking people of all races, please join me to reelect President Obama in November 2012.

We as a people must knnow what politics is. Ww must know how it works. There is something called 1.interest articulation(A demand) 2.Imput(Tell some one) 3. Convission prosess (The Sytem) 4Out put (Did what you want come out) Feedback. If it does not come out like you want then you put it back into the system. That is the way it works. This is why educastion is iimportant. If you do not know what to do what do you think that you will get? There is more to this .Dr. Benjamin Mays said it best in the September 2004 isssue of the Ebony magazine “The Last Of The Great Eduators”. he said”If you are ignorant the worlrd will cheat you,If you weak the world will kick you and if you are a coward the world will keep you running.”

I have said this once already but it bares repeating. The way this game is played on us is easy to read once you see the patterns. The Anglo elite and their cohorts put Mr. Obama in place and made us believe we did it. As long as we believe that we are active in our elections and the choosing of our politicians they have us where they want us. Mr. Obama is their choice (He is being used to represent them as they attack us across the African Diaspora) therefore he is their winner in the elections whether we want him to be or not! In other words the naive and/or self-serving don’t really need to promote Obama with their ignorant illusions of what “he’s” done. He’s done absolutely nothing but represent the repressive and oppressive elite! Weigh what evils they have done through him against what they have been passing off as good. He represents their interests therefore he will win! He will not have any worthy competition placed in his way and therefore the public will be convinced that they voted Obama in.Again. He will win because the ‘Anglo-elite’ with their grand designs and their “Manifest Destiny” tunnel vision, controls everything and everyone and they want him there portraying a just and racially balanced America. Most “blacks” know that, that couldn’t be further from the truth! One only needs to see how they attack other nations, murder their leaders and rob the populace of resources thereby driving them deeper into poverty, but benefiting the Anglo-US and especially the elite-US. The patterns are there..One only need pay closer attention! Meanwhile African-Americans can be assured that no president in this country’s office is going to help us!

Your posting is misplaced and misleading. Do you want Herman Cain to win? Cain has come out publically saying Blacks are “not smart”. I see you are articulate in your posting. You must be smart. Does Herman think his wife is not smart to stay with him for 36 years while him cheating with blonde women? You must republican to wish the Health Care law overturned. The law benefits Blacks more than Whites. In fact Herman calls Blacks lazy. I just finished a 10hr shift. Am I lazy? We have Black doctors, pilots, engineers, lawyers, long distance haulers, astronauts, highway construction workers. Electronic engineers, electric engineers etc. Where does Herman get the idea that we Blacks are lazy? Please fill me in.

you have lost your mind in your myopic mind of conspiracy theories.

you want us to believe obama can win a second term even if 90% of black people stay home due to the desires of the power structure.

WizardG is a White Male who goes from Black sites trying to play Willie Lynch and spin his transparent mind games. Move on Willie and tell your pessimistic bullsh*t to some other ignorant people. We simply cannot afford to put a Re-pube in office. We Can’t Afford a Republican! No other way to say this. We Can Not Afford A Republican to Run This Country in 2012. They clearly state what they stand for and who they represent. Why are you on here promoting Yourself with your pseudo-intellectual rhetoric. Not today Wizard-WillieLynch-G. Not this Day. Obama 2012!

  6. pastori Balele November 11, 2011 at 3:49 pm #

Avery, please write to the “Your Black World” why you assert “We are being fooled by Obama”. This is the only way you can be challenged.

Im disappointed in Pres O and not sure I will vote for him in 2012. Moreover, I see no problem voting for Mitt Romney should he get the Republican nomination because he seems to have a liberal side.

    • pmbalele November 13, 2011 at 8:40 pm #

Voting for Mitty Romney? Do you know he is a Mormon? Mormon church teaches that Blacks are cursed humans. Mormons believe we Blacks come from Cain the brother of Able. So he will treat you as a cursed human once he gets elected. You have to be careful.

  8. Elliott Smith November 12, 2011 at 9:35 pm #

I am not disappointed with the President recognizing the challenge he is up against. When it was stated, “I hope he fails” but a senior member of the Republican Party, it just brings to the surface the saying; “you can please some of the people some of the time but yon can’t please all of the people all of the time”. I do know I would not want to hace his job, no matter what the pay or glory is.

  9. theprovider November 13, 2011 at 8:08 pm #

At minimum 91% black voting participation and at least 65% Latino is needed for the president to be re elected. The Independent vote will be 50-50 and the base is 6% more Demacrates than Republicans, with my math blacks (African American) will be the key in the election.

    • bryancjackson November 14, 2011 at 5:39 am #

That was Malcolm X’s math as well.

We’re always the key, and yet we always waste our vote, year after year.

I posted this Malcom X speech on Yvette’s site but if bears re-posting:

“… It was the fact that you threw 80 percent of your votes behind the Democrats that put the Democrats in the White House.

When you see this, you can see that the Negro vote is the key factor. And despite the fact that you are in a position to — to be the determining factor, what do you get out of it? The Democrats have been in Washington D.C. only because of the Negro vote. They’ve been down there four years, and they’re — all other legislation they wanted to bring up they brought it up and gotten it out of the way, and now they bring up you. And NOW, they bring up you. You put them first, and they put you last, ’cause you’re a chump, a political chump.

In Washington D.C., in the House of Representatives, there are 257 who are Democrats; only 177 are Republican. In the Senate there are 67 Democrats; only 33 are Republicans. The Party that you backed controls two-thirds of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and still they can’t keep their promise to you, ’cause you’re a chump. Anytime you throw your weight behind a political party that controls two-thirds of the government, and that Party can’t keep the promise that it made to you during election time, and you’re dumb enough to walk around continuing to identify yourself with that Party, you’re not only a chump, but you’re a traitor to your race.”

Now really ponder that quote (YT “Malcolm X you’re a chump” to hear how he says it). It’s accurate all the way down to the timing, the last house of reps was majority democrat, and Obama did f#4k-all for us (He didn’t even try to help Troy Davis, not even as a publicity stunt), hasn’t brought the troops home and now almost 4 years into his term, all us slipper-wearin’ crybaby nigras “need” to unify with him? Help him, when he indirectly told us “Help me nigg…brothas and sistas, I’m good for it this time!” last time he was in front all us uppity negros, thinking’ we’re people and what not?
In so few words, F*&ck Obama, Ron Paul 2012.

  10. jermaine November 16, 2011 at 12:23 am #

If Black people who have lived in America and witnessed the way President Barak Hussein Obama has treated the Black people, by put every group of people before the group who gave him over 90% of their vote only to get 10% of his time. I wouldn’t give him my vote if my life dependented on it.
